Hair is exposed to various environmental noxious agents that might harm its structure and cause hair breakage.
For many people, keeping their hair healthy isn’t easy, and using hair straighteners and hairdryers too frequently might make this even worse. Although with careful grooming and by choosing the right products we can make a huge difference, there’s nothing we can do about external effects.
No need to worry though, because there’s a solution to every problem: in this case hot scissors. Hot scissors are not just heated regular scissors, but electrically heated special tools and the result is called hot scissors cut or thermo cut.
Hot scissors cuts have become pretty popular in Hungary recently, yet it is still debated among some people whether it is effective or not. Some try it in the hope of a healthier look and say their hair did get richer and it effectively ended hair breakage. Others question if the price is worth the result. What makes the question more complicated is that there isn’t a single dominant opinion among barbers either.
No doubt it’s a well-marketed technique since it’s claimed to reduce the chance of split ends while making the hair healthy and rich. How does it do that? As opposed to the regular techniques that leave the hair tips open and fragile, the hot scissors technique closes the hair’s internal structure, keeping the proteins and vitamins inside as well as keeping the hair naturally hydrated. As a result, the hair’s structure will be healthy, soft, and rich that is less likely to be damaged, your hair will be more resistant to harmful environmental effects, and better in self-regeneration.
Among the advantages, it’s often mentioned that the hot scissors technique can be used for any type of hair, regardless of length and thickness. The barber electrically heats the scissors to 90-150 degrees depending on the hair’s quality. A lot of people emphasize that while regular cuts guarantee the absence of split ends for only 4 to 5 weeks, if you use the hot scissors technique, you only need to get a haircut every 4-5 months.
So, what do the critics have to say? Even a few barbers question if heating special scissors to 90-150 degrees could make such a huge difference. They say it’s not hot enough for lasting results (yet higher temperature would damage the hair-ends), and also cutting happens in a split second that’s not enough to make a real change. Others say using professional quality barber scissors is enough to cut hair without causing any damage.
That is an important question, but it’s not easy to give a good answer. If you go to a barbershop in Budapest and ask for a hot scissors cut, the barbers will surely not be surprised, but it’s not necessarily available everywhere.
If you keep struggling with split ends, you can give it a try and see if you can experience all those good things others have reported. But in case you’d stick to the good old barber tools, we take care of your mane using traditional barber techniques just as fine, without harming it at all.
